Vitoria-Gasteiz Municipality covers a territory of 27,580 ha and is composed by the main city, 64 small villages and rural and green areas and forests. Currently it has a population of 246,042 inhabitants, 96.30% of which lives within 3,000 m of the city centre, allowing over the 90% of the population to live within 300 m of the basic services that are normally required. These characteristics make Vitoria-Gasteiz a compact city in a pedestrian scale.

Vitoria-Gasteiz was appointed European Green Capital 2012. A triumph that took over three decades of environmental policies and reputation for balanced growth, careful urban planning developed over the years and the commitment of a  that has become an example for the European Community in relation to recycling, mobility or water consumption.

Role in the project

The City of Vitoria-Gasteiz plays a central role in the project as it represents one of the three lighthouse cities where actions will be executed. In this regard, AVG technicians will coordinate the planning and design of the foreseen interventions. In addition to this, AVG will be involved in the design of the ICT platform to be deployed in the city. AVG will take part in WP 2, 3, 6 and 7
