The SmartEnCity project activities in Tartu have inspired the conduction of several academic researches from two high schools in Estonia – the Tallinn Technological University and the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
Tartu will soon have intelligent LED street lighting – installed within the framework of SmartEnCity. After the instalment of the energy efficient street lighting in the city centre, management controllers as well as traffic and environmental sensors will be integrated.
“We improve our Coronación Neighbourhood" was the name of an informative session for citizens in the Aldabe civic centre in Vitoria, on June 23rd and 24th, 2017. With a total attendance of more than 200 people during the two days, the event was very well received by interested citizens.
As a result of the SmartEnCity efforts, the Basque Government and the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz have decided to grant complementary aid to the European, regional and local aid reserved for promoting the project, in order to facilitate access for those people with limited income and difficulties to obtain funding.
“Smarter is Cleaner” policy session at European Energy Sustainable Week 2017 – Learning from the SCC1 smart city projects
The EUSEW brought together the nine smart city ‘Lighthouse’ projects in a policy session. Representatives of the lighthouse and follower cities exchanged on the environmental, financial and societal benefits of smart solutions. David Drysdale of Aalborg University was representing the SmartEnCity Lighthouse City Sonderborg.
After more than 12 months of project activities, the European Commission has approved the first 10 deliverables of which 5 are public and now available for downloading.
Deliverable 2.1: Review of Regulatory gaps and recommendations to facilitate city transformation processes
This deliverables describes which potential barriers for successful implementation of the demonstrator projects in SmartEnCity anticipated by the involved partners.
Deliverable 2.2. is related to Task 2.3. Standards. This task is included in Work Package 2: SmartEnCity Urban Regeneration Strategy. This Work Package establishes the common framework that will allow the integrated and harmonized deployment of the lighthouse projects in Vitoria – Gasteiz, Tartu and Sonderborg, and replicating their experience in the two follower cities (Asenovgrad and Lecce).
Deliverable 2.3: New Business Models, procurements schemes and financing mechanism for the smart city project
The objective of this deliverable is to identify the path to be followed on project replication and on business models that will make projects similar to SmartEnCity economically feasible, without public subsidies. The recommendations are based on current ongoing lighthouse projects, and are made through recommendations on financing and funding schemes, on public procurement framework and on business models (following business model canvas). Recommendations are based on existing business models being implemented for working areas such as building retrofitting; energy supply and use; smart mobility and investments in ICT in Lighthouse projects.
The result of this document is the segmentation of the citizen engagement reality in nine differentiated areas: Governance, Purpose, Key Actors and Roles, Citizen Engagement Strategies definition, Value Proposition, Segments and Target Groups, Communication, Spaces and Feedback. The Map has been named CES Model, the Citizen Engagement Strategy Model. The purpose of this model is to create a frame that can be useful for Follower and other cities, focusing on citizen involvement by developing citizen engagement strategies. At the same time, this citizen engagement process forms the basis for the change of citizens mind-sets’ and behaviour .
