Virtual Meeting of the Estonian Smart City Club.

SmartEnCity National Network News: The Estonian Smart City Club met virtually

03 Dec 2020

On 4th November, the Estonian Smart City Club met again, but this time due to circumstances, virtually. In addition to the local SmartEnCity project team members (from the Institute of Baltic Studies, Tartu Regional Energy Agency, Telia and the University of Tartu), representatives from the cities of Tartu, Pärnu, Paide, Tallinn, Valga, Viljandi and Jõhvi were also present. The group was happy to meet and to get to know its newest member of the club – Pärnu, which was represented by members of the city government.

The main focus of the meeting was on data gathering and monitoring. Urmo Lehtsalu from SmartEnCity Project Partner Telia introduced the smart city platform that was developed in the SmartEnCity project and that is now used by two Lighthouse Cities – Tartu and Sonderborg – for data gathering, monitoring and more. After the presentation, a joint discussion followed during which other Club members described the ways they are currently handling data and what are their needs in this field.

The data discussion followed with a presentation from Veronika Mooses from the mobility lab of Tartu University of Tartu. She introduced a new useful data tool which allows users to make quick analyses based on mobile positioning data and also access a large variety of different data sources.

The last presentations of the meeting were made by Martin Kikas from Tartu Regional Energy Agency, who introduced the EUCF investment grant and other trainings that are available for the public sector.
