The Estonian Smart Cities Club meets for the seventh time
25 Jun 2021On 10 June 2021, the Estonian Smart Cities Club met virtually for the seventh time. Since founding the Club, the membership numbers have grown annually with the latest addition being Haapsalu city from the north-west of Estonia. In addition to Haapsalu, representatives from Tartu, Viljandi, Elva, Pärnu, Võru, Jõhvi and Viimsi and the Läänemaa Foundation also took part. The local project partners, the Tartu Regional Energy Agency (TREA) and the Institute of Baltic Studies (IBS) were also present.
The first presentation of the meeting was given by Mr. Siim Meeliste, a representative of Võru city, who shared his city’s experience in being a Follower City in an international Smart City project. He discussed the opportunities a Follower City gets and the development plans of Võru in light of support from the project.
Next, Mr. Martin Kikas from TREA introduced a new study that explored the opportunities and capabilities of Estonian municipalities to achieve sustainability goals. Mr. Kikas also introduced upcoming training for municipalities. The last presentation of the meeting was by Ms. Merit Tatar from IBS who gave an overview of upcoming important Smart City events and introduced and reminded cities to use several important SmartEnCity project tools and resources.
The Smart Cities Club will meet again in autumn 2021, hopefully, this time already in person.
