03 Apr 2022

On 9 March 2022, as part of the CEESEU project bootcamp, 40 European experts and municipality representatives visited SmartEnCity Lighthouse City Tartu. The participants came from Germany, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Hungary, Poland, and Austria to learn from Tartu's experience in developing its Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP).

The bootcamp event was focusing SECAPs - how to start and how to develop on the basis of the methodology developed within SmartEnCity project. During the visit, the Climate Specialist of Tartu City introduced the Tartu City SECAP “Tartu Energy 2030” and SmartEnCity project. Afterwards, the participants went on a SmartEnCity study tour, led by the Institute of Baltic Studies (IBS) and the Regional Energy Agency (TREA). During the more than two-hours tour, the participants got a chance to visit the retrofitted “smartovka” buildings and the artworks decorating the new facades. In addition, the participants were also invited inside one of the houses for a more closer look at the renovated basements and technical systems.

The European experts and municipality representatives were very interested in the smart renovation model piloted in the SmartEnCity project and curious how this large-scale renovation was accomplished. IBS, TREA and SCL were present to answer all questions about technical details, the finances, smart home system, and citizen engagement. In the end, all participants were invited to attend the SmartEnCity final conference which is taking place on 14 - 15 June in Ligthhouse City Vitoria-Gasteiz.
