Canadian Delegation meets SmartEnCity Project in Vitoria Gasteiz.05 Aug 2018
In the last week of July, a Canadian Delegation from the City of Windsor (Ontario) visited Vitoria Gasteiz within the framework of a Learning Exchange from the City-to-City Cooperation programme of the International Urban Cooperation (IUC).
Funded by the European Union, the International Urban Cooperation’s (IUC) main purpose is to support the achievement of bilateral policy objectives as well as major international agreements on urban development and climate change, such as the Urban Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
Transportation, planning and sustainability experts from the City of Windsor and the Country Coordinator of IUC-NA for Canada returned the visit previously made to Canada by CEA Environmental Studies Centre of Vitoria Gasteiz, a partner of the SmartEnCity consortium.
During this visit, the Canadian team studied different local examples of sustainable practices in the fields of mobility, energy saving, fight against climate change and protection of nature and biodiversity. Among other activities, they found some time to learn about the retrofitting activities at Coronación District. An architect of VISESA answered the numerous questions and explained the main points of SmartEnCity deployment in Vitoria Gasteiz.
The visitors were enthusiastic about the project and VISESA and CEA enjoyed explaining the project and exchanging ideas and experiences with such an interested expert audience.
