Big Success for Lighthouse City Sonderborg! Its zero carbon ambition is recognised worldwide and has now been awarded with the “Industry Innovation Award”. The ceremony took place at the Euro-China Green and Smart City Award Summit 2018 beginning of September in the Chinese City Ningbo, which is just south of Shanghai.

Aase Nyegaard, Chairman of the Technology and Environment Committee in Sonderborg, Iben Nielsen, SmartEnCity Project Manager, Lars B. Riemann, CEO for the coordinating partner Sonderborg Forsyning, and Business Representative of the Energy Technology Industry, Alfred Che from Danfoss were invited to Ningbo in China to receive the valuable price. As part of the EU project SmartEnCity, Sonderborg has carried out a number of energy efficiency projects since February 2016 with EU funds. The ambitious green projects in Sonderborg have now been rewarded with the "Excellence Award and Pioneer Award" at the prestigious Euro-China Green and Smart City Awards 2018. "We are very proud that Sonderborg receives the award, which is not only an important recognition of the various energy efficiency projects we have implemented as part of SmartEnCity. The prize is also opening doors to the many companies in our area that are specialised in the field of energy technology and want to get a foot onto the Chinese market”, says Chairman of the Technology and Environment Committee in Sonderborg Municipality, Aase Nyegaard.

Sonderborg receives much positive attention from all over the world for initiatives in the field of energy and the ProjectZero goal of becoming CO2 neutral in 2029. “That we receive awards at such significant events as the Euro-China Green and Smart City Awards 2018 help to emphasize our position as a green pioneer city at both European and international level”, concludes Aase Nyegaard.
