Final SmartEnCity Italian Network event in Lecce

The final Italian SmartEnCity Network event has taken place in Lecce on 27 April in both formats - virtual and in-presence. The event with the title “The role of the Public Administrations in the energy transition process: Integrated Energy Planning, SECAP and Energy Communities”, was organised in collaboration with the Engineers’ and Architects’ associations of Lecce Province, with the patronage of the Apulia Region - Economic Development Department, opened up to the Cities of the SmartEnCity Italian Network and to all interested local stakeholders.

The seminar had the twofold aim to share the results obtained by Lecce Municipality during the course of SmartEnCity project within a wider audience, as well as to discuss about strategic topics for the next actions of Lecce towards CO2 reduction and climate neutrality (process to develop the Lecce Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), energy efficiency implementation actions, renewable energy production and energy communities’ creation).

 For this purpose, the event was structured in three sessions, opened by a presentation of Lecce's Mayor, Carlo Salvemini, and the Councillor of the Public Works’ sector, Marco Nuzzaci, together with the representatives of the Engineers and Architects’ associations.   

 The three sessions were dedicated to: 

1) First session - Processes of energy planning and SECAP: here Sara Botto and Gloria Anna Carallo of RINA presented the Cities4Zero methodology followed by Lecce. Then there was a contribution from the representative of the Covenant of Mayor, Davide Cassanmagnago, and a presentation of the Italian-SmartEnCityNetwork member UCSA, Luigi Acquaviva, on his experience with the development of SECAP as a group of Municipalities; 

2) Second session - Lecce experience as Follower City: here the manager of Department of Public Works’ sector of Lecce Municipality, Giovanni Puce, the SmartEnCity Project Manager for Lecce Municipality, Serena Pagliula, and the Energy Manager’s representative presented the results obtained during SmartEnCity (Integrated Energy Plan (IEP) and Roadmaps), together with the actions already implemented with regard to the energy efficiency of public lighting and buildings; 

3) Third session - Focus on Energy Communities: here there were several contributions from Italian energy communities, energy citizenship and cooperatives successful projects, such as GRETA and GECO projects, with the participation of Carlo Alberto Nucci and Danila Longo from the University of Bologna, Claudia Carani from AESS and Melpignano energy cooperative with the director Grazia Giovannetti. 

The event was closed by Alessandro Delli Noci, Councilor for Economic Development and Energy Policies of the Apulia Region.
